About the Cornish Corner & The Mineral Point Collection, LLC
Catherine Whitford is the savvy and accomplished business owner of The Mineral Point Collection, LLC located at 151 High Street in the downtown historic district of Mineral Point, Wisconsin.
Catherine runs the shop with her faithful companion, Tekie, a purebred Shih Tzu with a full name of TREHAWKES Prince tekter. Tekie’s name is all Cornish with the exception of “Prince” (added due to the fact of being a purebred) with Trehawkes being the specific part of Cornwall that Catherine has traced her Cornish ancestry roots to and tekter is Cornish for beautiful.
Catherine Whitford is 2nd generation Cornish, a Cornish Bard and is very active in the Southwest Wisconsin Cornish Society with many other groups and associations. Catherine became a Cornish Bard on September 1st of 2012 and was inducted at Camelford, Cornwall. This was not far from Launceston where her ancestors, Robert & Margaret (Venning) Hawke left in 1872 for America. The Hawke lineage has been traced back almost 1,000 years to Trehawke Barton and the original family home is still lived in there today.
Catherine is very active in many groups, the community of Mineral Point and her church, Trinity Episcopal. She is a member of the Mineral Point Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of Southwest Wisconsin Cornish Society, Member of the Ladies Guild, Eucharist Minister and Lector of Trinity Episcopal, Treasure of Linden School Reunion, Charter Member of The Linden American Legion Auxiliary and Leader of the Annual Hawke Family Reunion (since 1978, which dates back to 1925).
Among all of these accomplishments she is an artist (oil painting), was a part-time “pinch hitter” pipe organist and served on the Cornish Committee for many years. In addition, Catherine has designed a commemorative ornament (sold exclusively at The Mineral Point Collection, LLC) which includes a Cornish flag background, Cornish daffodils, Cornish Chough and have included the words” Mineral Point, Wisconsin” on the bottom. Catherine has also designed several t-shirts and sweatshirts including Mineral Point Cousin Jack that are available exclusively at the Mineral Point Collection, LLC.
